We’ve yet to meet a girl (or guy!) who doesn’t want luscious, healthy locks, but with all we put our tresses through, this can sometimes be a little trickier than it should!

From regular bleaching sessions, to heat styling to hours out in the sun, our hair is exposed to it all.

If you’re like most people, you may frantically apply a hydrating mask and hope for the best. Kinda like a football player throwing a hail mary pass. Might work, might not work. But at the end of the day, just like our skin and physical health, healthy, happy hair comes down to an array of factors that need to all work together in harmony.

In this article, we’ll let you in on our 5 best holistic hair care practices.

Do be gentle

Nothing speeds up split ends faster than pulling and tugging at your hair aggressively when it’s in a knot and you’re in a hurry!

You can’t expect your hair to look its best if you aren’t treating it the best so be more mindful next time you comb it out.

Look for a brush specifically designed to gently remove tangles without tugging at your strands and don’t ever comb your hair when it’s wet unless you’re using a wide-toothed comb or a wet to dry brush. Try a brush like this one.

Don’t use harsh ingredients

Just like your skincare, you need to be aware of what you’re applying to your hair because the wrong products can leave your locks looking less than lustrous.

Most conventional brand shampoos and conditioners contain harsh sulfates and other drying ingredients that can dry out your hair and put it at risk for breakage (not to mention, it’s bad for your health!)

Ditch those frizz-inducing products and opt instead for a sulfate-free and all-natural shampoo and conditioner that will gently cleanse your scalp while infusing your strands with nutrients to leave it soft, swishy and oh-so-touchable! To take it a step further, reduce the amount of times a week you are washing your hair! Aim for every other day, or every three days. Or, you can do like us, and survive off of clean dry shampoo for as long as possible!

Do try a silk pillowcase

This may sound extravagant, but you can usually find a silk pillowcase for a decent price online and honestly, it really can make a huge difference!

When you sleep and move around during the night, your hair can tug and pull and become knotty if you’re sleeping on a rough material. Silk will create less friction between your hair and your pillowcase, which means smoother strands, less frizz, and healthier hair.

Don’t skip the trims

Many people skip their regular trims for fear of their hairdresser cutting off way too much (we all have a hair horror story to share) but trimming is essential to remove split ends that may prevent your hair from getting any longer.

Next time you’re at the salon ask for a micro trim, also referred to as “dusting” because the hair on the floor should resemble dust at the end of your sesh.

This process involves cutting off only a quarter of an inch to half an inch off the ends, so you’ll barely notice a difference, but you’ll feel the benefits when you run your fingers through your hair!

Do invest in a hair oil

Last, but not least, why let your skin have all the love when your hair deserves it too!

A hair oil is an excellent way to add hydration, shine and a deep dose of hair vitamins with just one application! It helps to tame frizz, leaves the hair silky and soft, prevents split ends and even protects the hair against the elements! With this gorgeous oil you can treat your body and your hair at the same time!

Pro Tip: Apply these beautiful perfume oils to the ends of your hair for silky hydration and light scent.
