Some nutritional benefits from that green ball of gorgeousness:
1. Avocados are a great source of a number of antioxidants, such as alpha carotene, beta carotene, beta cryptoxanthin, zeaxanthin and lutein. These compounds keep you looking younger by protecting you from the environmental damage that free radicals cause. Avoiding the damage of free radicals means you avoid the fine lines, wrinkles or other visible signs of aging.
2. Avocados are indeed high in fat but it’s the type of fat that actually does your body good. They contain a very high amount of oleic acid and it’s this monounsaturated fatty acid that helps maintain moisture in your skin. We have all heard the benefits of omega’s for brain health – and perhaps even for your skin (I’m letting you know here that omega’s are essential for healthy skin) and avocados are rich with omega-9, which is involved in the regeneration of damaged skin cells, and helps keep down any inflammation and redness.
3. This may be a surprising tid-bit but avocados are high in vitamin C. Since vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin, our body does not store it, meaning we need to be getting some daily; eat those avocados! Vitamin C contributes to the creation of elastin and collagen, so if you want to support the firmness and skin-tone of your largest organ, pass the guacamole!
